Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded as a community service organization on January 16, 1920, by five Black women under the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. Keeping with the precepts of the sorority, the Pi Alpha Zeta Chapter awards an annual scholarship.
The inaugural scholarship was awarded in the spring of two-thousand and one. Pi Alpha Zeta awards the scholarship(s) to students based on the quality of the application, student need, and community involvement. The goal of the scholarship is to encourage higher education amongst students in Oregon and Southwest Washington by supporting their efforts to attend a four-year college or university.
