Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington D.C. as a community service organization. The Sorority was established by five women under the principles of Service, Scholarship, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood with the charge of being a community conscious - action oriented organization. Since its inception, the Sorority has expanded to encompass more than 500+ graduate and collegiate chapters around the world including chapters in The Unites States, Africa, Germany, The Virgin Island, Japan, and Korea among others. In our 90+ years of service, countless numbers of women have dedicated their lives to the emulation of the ideals of the Sorority which was set by our Founders.
Pi Alpha Zeta Chapter History
The Pi Alpha Zeta Chapter was chartered on January 4, 1995 by Beverly Ford, Tonya Parker, Abrella Luvert, Natasha Dawson, and Inez Amado. The only graduate chapter in the state, Pi Alpha Zeta is composed of graduate members of the Sorority who have received their degrees from various colleges and universities. As a group and individually, chapter members volunteer their time to serve the Portland Metro Area in many ways including volunteer hours, monetary donations, and community outreach. Our yearly calendar includes volunteering with various community groups and organizations along with holding our own programs and events. Our chapter goal is to volunteer as a group at least once a month and to host at least one community program a quarter. In addition to volunteering and programming the chapter holds quarterly fundraisers to support our events and raise funds to donate back to the community. Our largest community donation is to our Oregon Dove Scholarship, which is given out to one high school senior in the Portland Metro Area each year.
